Since the last update in Apple iPod touch, with the launch of the sixth generation model in July 2015, it has not been upgraded. Apple even discontinued the other existing iPods- nano and iPod shuffle in 2017. For more than 3 years we have been wondering if this product will get its due upgradation. Just when we believed Apple has given up on iPod touch, this year 2019 brought some evident speculations showing us a ray of hope to receive seventh generation iPod sooner or later this year.

Let's see the evidence that called for this discussion-

With the beginning of the year, in January a trusted Japanese report Macotakara claimed about Apple seventh generation iPod touch being in the development process. Though the report only cited the supply chain matter and didn't really provide any detail about its design, price or any feature, this news got validation later in the month when developer Steven Troughton-Smith found the mention of iPod touch model  "iPod 9,1", written into the base of iOS 12.2. This model name  was never seen before. The code also had new iPads mentioned which are already released in March make us believe all the more.

Market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, in his February forecast report of upcoming Apple products, added Apple iPod touch that has a faster processor. He predicted its release in the first half of the year. With the fourth month end, we can only wish Kuo's prediction to be true.

So what shall we expect from the seventh generation iPod touch?

As per MacRumors, certain features of sixth generation iPod like 4-inch retina display in an aluminum body as of iPhone 5, with a home button are going to remain in seventh generation iPod. The upgraded will be more focused on the processor and camera.

Wireless charging doesn't seem possible considering the aluminum body, hence no compatibility with Air power as well. If information about the new iPod Touch discovered in iOS 12.2 code are to be considered,  also Touch ID and Face ID for biometric security won’t be there.

The sixth generation iPod touch still holds the A8 processor that also runs the iPad mini 4. This A8 chip was launched in 2014 with iPhone 6 and 6 plus. It has a rear camera of 8-megapixel with features like slo-mo and burst mode. It offers wifi support of  802.11ac  and 4.1 Bluetooth. The highest storage ur offers is 128GB.

The seventh generation iPod touch is probably coming up with A12 bionic processor that powers the 2018 iPhone models. The camera can upgrade to 12 megapixel and Bluetooth from 4.1 to 5. On the higher end, We can expect 256GB storage. NFC could possibly come to facilitate Apple Pay.

Although if Apple decides to keep the starting price of Apple iPod touch same as of the sixth generation iPod touch, we shouldn't expect all the upgraded latest hardware packed in the latest iPhones.

Amongst all the inspiration ramping up surrounding the seventh generation iPod touch, a conceptual video had been floating around that imagined the new device like the design of iPad pro with 7 inches screen. We don't fall for such wishes and expect the much-needed boost in the processor that may support the ios updates of future. The present iPod limits only to audio calling while using face time with the group.

Believing Kuo's words, it could be within the next two months or Apple might hold it for September even. Much speculations positively ensure only one thing that we are going to see seventh generation iPod touch this year.
