It is currently available in the US, South Africa, Japan and Canada and was officially launched on the 3rd of March in 31 European countries, such as France, Denmark, Germany, Denmark, Russia, Portugal and the UK.

The gaming device comes with a 6.2-inch high definition screen plus Joy-Con controllers that can be clipped off to be used separately as mini game pads. This is the hand-held mode which allows you to remotely use the Switch during travel or while sitting in a separate room. And when you decide to play on the larger TV screen, all you need to do is slide it into the dock and clip the Joy-Cons on a Grip, bringing it all together to make a regular game controller.

At present, the Nintendo Switch costs USD $300 in the USA, USD $260 or 29,980 Yen in Japan, and USD $350 or £280 in the UK.

While the all new Nintendo Switch is different than the company’s existing Wii U machine and other gaming consoles, the following comparisons will discuss about how Nintendo Switch fares against the other notable options such as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Price

Though the cost of these products falls in the same price range, the Nintendo Switch is comparatively more expensive but that is attributed to its novelty and freshness in the market. Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have been here for a while and so their prices have drastically gone down since their launches in the year 2013. Needless to say, like any other gadget or gizmo the price of Nintendo Switch will also go down in the future, but can you resist such a great product? Also, Christmas time will see Super Mario Odyssey and Microsoft's Project Scorpio in the running soon. So, choose wisely.

At present, you can purchase the Xbox One S for about $290 these days while the PS 4 Slim is available for about $277. Also, they come with one game to play with. The Nintendo Switch is priced at almost $350 and does not come with any game.

The prices of the games for all three consoles start from $50 and are under $75, though you may find some on discount on the established ecommerce websites.

Availability

P S4 (or the PS 4 Pro) and Xbox One S are easily available in the market. Nintendo Switch is available as per stock limitations so you may have to wait to have your order shipped. It is also available in neon red and neon blue colors of Joy-Cons.

Hardware

The Nintendo Switch is noticeably different from the rest of the two options in terms of hardware. It has this mobile processing architecture by Nvidia which is a greatly modified chipset Tegra X1, whereas the Xbox One S and PS 4 have a very conventional computing power.

Both the PS 4 and Xbox One S boast of HDR (high dynamic response) graphics nowadays while this feature is missing in Nintendo Switch. However, the portability of the Switch trumps everything else. It has the distinct advantage above its rivals as it can double as a handheld gaming machine as well as a home console. This means that you can easily take it with you wherever you go and entertain yourself with the same games on the built-in 6.2 inch screen.

Disk Storage and Drives

Both PS 4 and Xbox One S have physical disk drives. The Xbox One S can play 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays. But Sony, which is the founding member of Blu-ray Disc Association, did not add the 4K deck to its new PS 4 Pro consoles. However, they can still play the 1080p Blu-rays. The Japanese Nintendo Switch has decided to take a different route altogether and has opted for games on cartridge, much like the Nintendo consoles of yore and 3DS. The games will be available on download stores but you may want to invest in a new microSD card that can store more than two games at one time.

The storage capacity of Xbox One S rages between 500 GB and 2 TB, but presently the stores are offering the version with capacity only up to 1 TB. Even the PS 4 offers space till 1 TB, though both the gaming devices allow you to raise the storage bar via third-party drives. The Xbox can be boosted using external hard drive USB 3.0 HDDs, while the PlayStation can be boosted with 3.5 inch internal drives. However, the new Nintendo Switch comes with a built in storage of 32 GB! The latest Legend of Zelda game will occupy almost half of it when you purchase it from Nintendo’s eShop.

Media Streaming

PS 4 Pro and Xbox One S are both good when used for games machines as well as media streaming. Both of them consist of Amazon Video and Netflix apps, where the PS 4 offers Netflix in 4K HDR and Xbox One S offers both of them in 4K HDR. Terrestrial TV services like BBC iPlayer can be viewed using these consoles too. At present, the Nintendo Switch is focusing primarily on games and does not offer any of such services. It may, however, launch media streaming in the near future.

It is evident that Nintendo Switch is a different game console in contrast to the other two options. If you are a hardcore gamer and already own a PS 4 Pro or an Xbox One S, this could be the perfect second machine.

And even though motion gaming is a major attraction towards Nintendo Switch, especially for family-oriented entertainment, portability remains its biggest advantage. You can use it as a home console alternative or move around without having to say goodbye to your favorite game. For this purpose, you can invest in a trendy leather bag like the Xplorer backpack which has strong mesh pockets inside to help you keep the Switch secure. For added convenience, the bag also provides adequate storage for cables and adaptors. Alternatively, UlluShop’s Handy bag is also a great option for stashing your tech gear while traveling. These bags will help you store more than just your games and gaming consoles. So commence the travel and carry the entertainment in style.
